salame al cioccolato - chocolate salami

"Salame al cioccolato" is a delicious dessert that, in many regions, Italian families eat especially during winter lazy Sundays or as afternoon snack for children as they love it so much! As this is excellent with coffee or tea you can have for your breakfast of evening tea.

Along with chocolate cake, Chocolate Salami is one of the most popular desserts. It has the advantage to be uncooked but it must be kept in the refrigerator or even freezer. In fact this famous dessert is made with raw eggs like Tiramisu'.

This traditional recipe of Chocolate Salami wants dry biscuits, dark chocolate, butter, eggs and sugar. This can also be prepared without eggs, with hazelnuts or pistachio.

Here, my recipe, is with pistachio but you can substitute with hazelnuts!

INGREDIENTS:

  • 200g Classic dry biscuits

  • 50g of pistachio or hazelnuts

  • 2 eggs

  • 200g of sugar

  • 100g of melted butter

  • 150g of 70% of cocoa chocolate

  • 1 Espresso cup of espresso coffee

  • 40g cacao powder

As a first step, take a bowl and crumble the biscuits until you obtain small pieces. Then sieve them, this is to remove the powder that the biscuits created when you crumble them. After that take a large bowl, pour the eggs, sugar, melted butter, melted cocoa chocolate, cocoa powder and a cup of coffee. With a fork mix until the mixture is homogeneous and add the crumbled biscuits a little at a time, continuing to mix.

At this point the dough is ready, we just have to give it the shape of "salami".

We cut a piece of film, pour the mixture we have prepared over it and shape it with our hands until it has taken on the appearance, in fact, of a salami. This is fan! :)

We close everything by sealing the ends well and we wrap it with aluminium foil. Let it rest in the fridge for 3 hours and that's it!

At this point you can take back our dessert, place it on a tray and sprinkle with icing sugar all over. This is ready to be served; cut it in slices like you would cut a salami but 1cm thick. This can be placed in the fridge if you like softer or in the freezer if you like harder. Enjoy this yummy cake for your morning coffee or evening tea!!
